I first heard about using coconut oil from my in-laws. Prior to ViSalus, my mother-in-law, Janice, got very very sick doing an all fat-free, sugar-free diet. She was getting very little protein, fats, minerals, and nutrients, and her digestive system shut down. One of the things Janice’s doctor told her was that she needed fats, good fats! One of his suggestions was to cook sweet potatoes in coconut oil. (Sweet Potatoes themselves have wonderful health benefits!)
As I started learning more about health because of ViSalus, I began looking for more information about coconut oil. Coconut oil is high in saturated fat which, contrary to previous beliefs, is very good for you, as well as, lauric acid. There are tons of health benefits of coconut oil, and it’s a natural energy booster. I’ve even heard multiple times that it is good for thyriod health.
There are so many uses for coconut oil. Like I said before, you can cook sweet potatoes in it, but I tend to cook all my vegetables in it. My son loves okra so I’ll put about a teaspoon in the skillet before heating up his okra. I saute my onions and bell peppers in it for fajitas as well. I use coconut oil as a substitute for butter in recipes. Just use the same amount of oil as indicated for butter. You can also add a tablespoon or so to your ViSalus Vi-Shape shakes!
I’ve even seen uses listed for skin care and hair care! Use as a moisturizer for skin or a conditioner for hair!
I have not been able to buy coconut oil at my local grocery store. I do have to go to a health food store to find it. I buy organic, pure, extra virgin. It’s a little expensive, but it lasts me quite a while.
ViSalus for me has meant striving for a healthier lifestyle. I encourage you to try coconut oil! It has nice, suttle flavor and is so much better for you than many other oils.
